WELCOME 2008

On January 11 2008 Dead and Alive returned to the air, broadcasting a selection of music Tim and I enjoyed over the Christmas break. You heard a largely classical selection, including one of Mozart's violin sonatas and Schubert's final piano sonata in B flat, player piano studies from Conlon Nacarrow before ending with the third movement from Beethoven's string quartet op 132. We hope you enjoyed it.

Microtonality

Last Friday, October 12, we played microtonal music, and featured works by Alois Haba (pictured, on his quartet-tone piano), Bach, Bartok, Rytis Mazulis, Ligeti, Scelsi, Foulds, Ives, Partch, some gamelan, and finished with Haba's monstrous quarter tone opera, The Mother.

Tonight, October 19, we're playing music on the theme of sex - ooh err! Expect some Wagner, Barry, Gainsbourgh and The Necks.

NEW SHOWS

Our first show for the new season has now been and gone, and featured various pieces of music we'd been enjoying over the past few months. Opening with our theme tune, the overture from Gerlad Barry's Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant, we then played work by Gordon Mumma, Mendelssohn's Octet, Bryman, Cardew, Porter Wagoner, Lola Flores, Nono, Hindemith, Haass, Enescu, Mazulis (pictured), Arthur Lyman and Donnacha Dennehey. Many thanks to Lina, our Lithuanian engineer, for pronunciation assistance. Our second show, on film music, was last Friday - full playlist details will be posted wehn (if?) I can locate them. DEAD AND ALIVE RETURNS!

Dear Listeners,

Many apolgies for our delay in returning to the airwaves, but news has it that we'll be back, live, Friday September 28th at our old time of 9pm - 10.30pm. We'll be broadcasting from the new and improved Resonance FM studio at London Bridge, with new equipment, but we hope to keep our personal teething trouble to a minimum.

Our first program shall be a broad survey of music we've enjoyed over the past few months, from Wolfgang Rihm to Porter Wagoner. This season we'll be scheduling programs two weeks in advance, hoping to be even better prepared than last year. The following week's program on October 5th will look at music for films.

We look forward to another season of fine music, and hope to hear from you.
