GRAVEYARD

I'll be broadcasting on Triple R in the wee small hours of Tuesday 31 August from 2-6am, that's 6pm Monday 30 August for Londoners. It will be another four hours of contemporary classical, electronics and random ephemera. In particular I'll be playing extracts from Hermann Nitsch's recently released 9th Symphony - harrowing stuff, computer piano music from Conlon Nancarrow and Wolfgang Voigt, plus more hauntology, hypnagogia and psychodrama. Catch it in Melbourne 102.7FM or internationally at http://www.rrr.org.au/programs/streaming/

The next graveyard is Saturday 11 September - a big date, let's make it special.

GRAVEYARD SHIFT

Dead and Alive is back on the air! Sporadically I'll be broadcasting live on Melbourne's Triple R 102.7FM, doing the Graveyard Shift, 2-6am. The debut program aired very early 12 June, and the music reflected this unseemly hour: dark, nocturnal sounds, from contemporary classical through electronics to Lynchian psychodrama. There were quite a few stylistic shifts / genre slips, but a unity of tone. I've been particularly impressed recently by the crazed sounds of Oneohtrix Point Never, truly disturbing. Here's the playlist:

CLASSICAL

Richard Wagner (pictured above): Das Reingold (overture)
Gas: Nah Und Fern
Gas: Zauberberg 1
Charles Ives: Orchestral Set 2, first and second movements
James Tenney: Forms 2, In Memory of John Cage
Arnold Schoenberg: String Quartet 2, fourth movement
Ekkehard Ehlers: Plays John Cassavetes 2
Sturm: Untitled (4)
Ekkehard Ehlers: Offen
Robert Schumann: Five Pieces in the Folk Style
Rytis Mazulis: Sans Pause
Indignant Senility: Plays Wagner, 11
Erik Satie: Musique d'Ambleument

ELECTRONICS

Robert Hood (pictured above): Minus
Actress: Lost
Prosumer: Brownstone
Lawrence: Treacle Mine
Christopher Rau: Soulful
Murat Ozur: Unbound
Losoul: Up The Beach
Prompt: Amber
Isolee: The Black Lodge
DJ Koze: I Want to Sleep
Rick Wade: Aint No Place
Robag Wruhme: Kennex
Wolfgang Voigt: Geduld (DJ Koze Remix)
Pom Pom: 33 (untitled)
Pom Pom: 33 (untitled)

John Carpenter: The President is Gone

Oneohtrix Point Never: Please Don't Go
Oneohtrix Point Never: Nobody Here
The Field: Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime

OLD SHOWS

Its been a long time, but I've finally worked out how to upload audio, so I've made a number of old shows available for download. I stumbled upon some of our earliest episodes, from 2006, broadcast prior to the development of this blog. Three of them are featured below.

Czech Music: http://www.sendspace.com/file/bc8hfv

Broadcast 24 February 2006, this episode examined music by Czech composers or inspired by Czechoslovakia / Czech Republic. I'd just returned from a winter holiday in Prague, so this was a way of giving back to that wonderful city. Features music by Smetana, Alois Haba (pictured above, at his quarter-tone piano), Dvorak, Martinu, Janacek, Max Brod, and Kurtag.

Opera post-Wozzeck: http://www.sendspace.com/file/p9j0p4

Broadcast 3 March 2006. Inspired by a London performance of Berg's opera we examine opera by Ligeti, Tippett, Neuwirth, Berio, Gershwin, Glass, Barry, and of course Berg.

New Releases: http://www.sendspace.com/file/tbxdv2

And... New Releases, broadcast 17 March 2006. Now no longer new, but no less valid, we played music from Beethoven, Sorabji (pictured above), Ekkehard Ehlers, Philip Jeck, Ryoji Ikeda and Tchaikovsky.

So grab these while they're... lukewarm. Thank you Peter Chambers who assisted me in this technical endeavour. I'll be posting more old episodes soon, emphasising those from the 'pre-blog' era. There may be some more radio activity soon too...
