WELCOME 2008

On January 11 2008 Dead and Alive returned to the air, broadcasting a selection of music Tim and I enjoyed over the Christmas break. You heard a largely classical selection, including one of Mozart's violin sonatas and Schubert's final piano sonata in B flat, player piano studies from Conlon Nacarrow before ending with the third movement from Beethoven's string quartet op 132. We hope you enjoyed it.

GUESTS

Last Friday, October 26 we were joined by Shoel Stadlen of SPNM and composer and Music Orbit founder Colin Riley to discuss recent projects. Many thanks for coming in.

This Friday, November 2, we will be examining music in numbered parts, looking particularly at the orchesterstücke of the second Viennese school. We hope you'll be joining us.

I've also just noticed a number of comments on our blog concerning old programmes and other trivia. I tried to respond without success, so do please get in touch with either of us, at our emails above.

NEW SHOWS

Our first show for the new season has now been and gone, and featured various pieces of music we'd been enjoying over the past few months. Many thanks to Lina, our Lithuanian engineer, for pronunciation assistance. Our second show, on film music, was last Friday - full playlist details will be posted wehn (if?) I can locate them. DEAD AND ALIVE RETURNS!

Dear Listeners,
Many apolgies for our delay in returning to the airwaves, but news has it that we'll be back, live, Friday September 28th at our old time of 9pm - 10.30pm. We'll be broadcasting from the new and improved Resonance FM studio at London Bridge, with new equipment, but we hope to keep our personal teething trouble to a minimum.
Our first program shall be a broad survey of music we've enjoyed over the past few months, from Wolfgang Rihm to Porter Wagoner. This season we'll be scheduling programs two weeks in advance, hoping to be even better prepared than last year. The following week's program on October 5th will look at music for films.
We look forward to another season of fine music, and hope to hear from you.
Josh and Tim.

MOVING

We'll be off the air until Resonance moves into its new premises in London Bridge. Stay tuned...

WAR

Tim fears he lost the playlist for last Friday's program on war music, but he did play a baroque battle piece, 'Arcana' by Varese (pictured), Schnittke's 'Nagasaki', Penderecki's 'Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima', Tchaikovsky's '1812', and Prokofiev's 6th piano sonata. Get in touch if you'd like to know more.

This Friday July 6 is our final show from Denmark Street. Lord knows we'll miss the place - the shabby cosiness, the decaying roof, the painfully narrow stairway, but most of all the charming squalor of next door's TPA bar. To celebrate we're playing music with bells on, literally. 90 minutes of bells. Tune in, and we'll be back live in August.
